Empowering Women in Engineering Through Scholarship, Mentorship, Industry exposure, and Placement Support

About the project

At IEEE, we envision a world where women thrive in engineering, driving innovation and forging pathways for future generations. Our Women in Engineering (WIE) Scholarship Program, funded by Quest Global and facilitated by IEEE India Philanthropy, is dedicated to empowering young women to pursue their engineering dreams in the states of Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra.
Our WIE Scholarship aims to change the narrative by providing comprehensive support to female students from economically weaker sections pursuing Engineering, which includes the daughters of single mothers and daughters from economically weaker sections. As part of our funding partner’s CSR initiative, the scholarship includes financial aid, equipping them with tools like laptops, mentorship, technical courses, training, placement support, and professional networking, ensuring a holistic support system for women in these fields. This program targets students who meet specific criteria, focusing on creating opportunities for those who need it the most.

Our Stories of Impact

“When Opportunity Meets Determination”

After my father passed away when I was 10, my mother, who had never worked outside the home, now had to raise five of us alone. We didn’t have a steady income, and even affording basic things like notebooks or bus fare was difficult. I used to sit in class worrying more about how to pay next semester’s fees than about the lessons. When I got the IEEE WIE Scholarship, it felt like someone had finally lifted a weight off my chest. It didn’t solve everything, but it gave me breathing space, dignity, and the chance to study without guilt. That support changed how I saw myself. It fueled my dreams, and one day, I hope to help students like me and pass on the gift of opportunity to similar students. I am grateful to IEEE India Philanthropy and Quest Global for the support.

A Path of Empowerment: “Impact of WIE Scholarship”

I lost my dad in 2018, and my mom was left as the only breadwinner. She worked diligently at a food factory but despite her diligence, paying household bills and my college tuition had become too much to bear. The constant pressure of money made me wonder if I could still proceed with my studies. I then received the Women in Engineering (WIE) Scholarship, which is funded by Quest Global and facilitated by IEEE India Philanthropy. It was a turning point. It paid for my tuition and lifted some of the burden off my mother’s shoulders. This scholarship not only alleviated our financial hardships but also instilled in me the motivation and confidence to keep going. It enabled me to concentrate on my studies and participate in IEEE activities, increasing my resolve to one day help others who may be in similar situations.

Turning Setbacks into Opportunities: “The Power of WIE “Scholarship

Paralysis of my father and other financial constraints in my family made it challenging to pay my school fees and engage in extracurricular activities. The cost was too much for me, but the unconditional support from my college staff offered encouragement to persevere. And then came the Women in Engineering (WIE) Scholarship, funded by Quest Global and facilitated by IEEE India Philanthropy, which was a light at the end of the tunnel. The scholarship support enabled me to own a laptop, which relieved a significant financial strain and gave me the tools to excel academically. The laptop became a crucial study aid for me, allowing me to enhance my coding abilities and access study material. With the financial burden lifted, I could concentrate on studying without having to be concerned about costs. The scholarship not only helped fund my studies but also provided me with the confidence to chase my ambitions. Due to this opportunity, I can now see a better future. This assistance has been an added boost in my studies, encouraging me to keep going.

Overcoming Adversity: “The IEEE WIE Scholarship as a Catalyst for My Academic Success”

In 2022, my family went through a very difficult time when my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Most of our savings were spent on her treatment, and because of the financial burden, I had to take a year-long break after completing my 12th grade. Even though it was a tough phase, I did not give up on my dream of becoming an engineer, and with a lot of struggle, I finally enrolled in an engineering course.

The IEEE WIE Scholarship, funded by Quest Global and facilitated by IEEE India Philanthropy, became a life-changer for me. It eased the financial pressure on my father, who is the only earning member of our family, and supported me in paying my college fees. Along with this, the scholarship also offered two free BLP courses, which helped me stay updated with the latest trends in technology.

The resume-building and interview preparation sessions gave me confidence and prepared me for my career ahead. Thanks to the WIE Scholarship, I can study without financial worries and move forward with confidence toward building my future.
