About the project

IEEE MOVE India is a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to supporting first responders during disasters and building long-term resilience. Inspired by the global IEEE MOVE program, MOVE India combines disaster response with education and innovation to make a lasting impact across the country.

IEEE India Philanthropy, along with IEEE MOVE Outreach India, supports disaster-affected communities through technology-driven solutions. MOVE is an award-winning program from IEEE that has completed five successful years in the USA. Based on the MOVE global, IEEE India, along with a few potential volunteers, started thinking of IEEE MOVE India Outreach in 2015. Disaster awareness and STEM activities were initiated in the year 2023. The program had its first MOVE vehicle launched in July 2025.
IEEE MOVE is an emergency response program that supports first responders during natural disasters with vital technology services like short-term communication, power supply, internet access, mobile charging, and lighting. Beyond emergency operations, the initiative also promotes disaster awareness and STEM education to promote awareness on climate change and sustainability.
By promoting local engagement and skill-building, IEEE MOVE Outreach India aims to create resilient, informed communities.

MOVE India has clearly defined goals to reach every disaster location through

  • Technology support through MOVE vehicle for first responders (Organisation or individual) to ensure communication, power, rescue, and information services
  • Disaster awareness among the children and youth to promote preventive and curative measure before, during and after disaster events through the active engagement of volunteers, institutions and organisations
  • STEM education related to climate change to promote sustainable environment
  • Explore more technological innovations to reduce the severity of damage caused by the disaster

Our Journey

Our Outreach Programs

The outreach programs are designed to educate children and the general public on disaster preparedness. They are achieved through:
  • Virtual simulations for floods, earthquakes, and other disasters.
  • Outreach programs focus on education and preventive measures, focusing on disaster preparedness.
Impact:
  • Improved awareness and preparedness among children and the larger community regarding disasters
  • 45+ disaster awareness events across 100 schools
  • 30+ STEM kits training across 7 states in India
  • Increase in the number of volunteers across the country to support disaster response
  • Improved engagement from schools, colleges, and the community in disaster management

In 2025, IEEE MOVE India took a major leap forward in disaster preparedness and STEM education

Launch of the first MOVE vehicle in India—bringing technology support to first responders and communities.

Our Stories of Impact

MOVE Outreach India, along with IEEE India philanthropy, organised a Disaster Awareness Training of Trainers (ToT) session at Navki’s College of Engineering, Hassan, engaging 85 enthusiastic participants. The training focused on critical areas such as disaster impacts, emergency response services, and effective preparedness strategies. Participants are now equipped to train students in nearby government schools, where they will raise awareness about various types of disasters, their causes, effects, and safety measures. The session also highlighted real-life examples from their local communities, making the training more relatable and impactful.

MOVE Outreach India, along with IIP, organised a summer camp at GHS Muttinkoppa, which was virtually linked to the India Mobile Congress in Delhi, enhancing MOVE’s national visibility. Given that Muttinkoppa is a disaster-prone area, the camp emphasised educating students on the causes of disasters, prevention methods, and the critical importance of disaster preparedness.

IEEE MOVE Outreach India, in collaboration with IEEE India Philanthropy, conducted a Disaster Awareness Program at GHPS Nemmar. During the session, one student shared that his family experiences flooding in their home almost every year. He said that whenever the floods came, they often felt helpless and unsure about what to do to stay safe. Through this program, he learned many important things such as what actions to take during a flood, what mistakes to avoid, and how simple measures can help protect his family. The session gave him not only practical knowledge but also the confidence to face such situations more calmly and effectively in the future.

During the Disaster Awareness Program, one student shared how the session changed his understanding of lightning safety. Earlier, he believed that standing under a tree during lightning was the safest option. But after the session, he learned that trees are actually very dangerous during lightning, as they are easily struck. He also learned what to do if caught outside during a lightning, one has to crouch down in a ball-like position with his head tucked, hands over his ears, and feet close together to stay safe. The session taught him several other safety measures too. The student said he now feels more confident about how to protect himself during such situations and plans to share this important knowledge with his friends and family. The program helped him realize how science and awareness can save lives.
