IEEE Blended Learning Program

The IEEE Blended Learning Program provides hands-on training and vital technical skills to students, new hires, and professionals. The online self-paced certificate program from IEEE employs the latest in applied and immersive e-learning techniques with extensive hands-on practice. This dual, in-depth blended-learning approach designed to complement learning with training in industrial practices will fully prepare new hires and practicing engineers for a successful career in the embedded systems, Internet of Things, and semiconductor industry.

IEEE Blended Learning Program is designed for:

  • STEM Education
  • Higher Education
  • Working professionals

Pedagogical approach

The underlying pedagogical approach can be mapped to various levels defined in Bloom’s taxonomy:

Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation.

However, the instructional design (ID) approach used in the IEEE Blended Learning Program is derived from a keen understanding of techniques for most effective teaching. These principles include:

    • Focus on “What, Why, and How”: Each concept in the course is explained to answer the following three questions:
      • What is a concept, similar to a definition?
      • How to apply or implement a concept?
      • Why is this concept relevant?
    • Concept Checks: The instructional design approach is designed to make the learner a very active participant in his/her learning in multiple ways. Each concept is followed by a short interactive Concept Check exercise to give the learner an opportunity to check his understanding
    • Points to Remember: Key takeaways are provided for most pages in the course to help learner remember the most important ideas
    • Context Sensitive Glossary to provide learners easy access to key definitions
    • Audio Lecture: In order to accommodate learners that have different abilities, interest, or background knowledge, a unique Audio Lecture is also included in the e-Learning. The Audio Lecture contains additional detail about the topic of a page that learners can listen to but is not required to understand the material

IEEE BLP models

The IEEE BLP has evolved and taken different shapes since it was conceptualized. As a result, IEEE has developed courses under the umbrella of BLP to fulfil the needs of academia, industry, and government. The IEEE BLP models have been grouped into four broader areas such as:

Blended Learning

IEEE BLP provides highly immersive learning combined with hands-on experience through eLabs and workshops. The program supports both B2C and B2B models. Many educational institutions have BLP as part of their learning/training resources. The courses have been adopted by several higher education departments and state governments to benefit students and faculty at large.

Capacity Building

IEEE BLP courses are designed to support capacity-building programs. The IEEE BLP has been adopted by Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, MeitY, Government of India, for one of the capacity building programs that mandates training of 25,000 youths (graduating students) to help them become industry-ready. These initiatives are under affirmative action programs to ensure equal employment opportunities.

Digital Literacy and Rural Skill Development

The IEEE BLP platform supports digital literacy program that benefits citizens from the potentials of digital technologies.

The IEEE BLP courses are aligned with skill development frameworks. Currently, BLP courses have been made available for the 250,000+ Village Level Entrepreneurs in India to learn and implement the government projects at the villages.

Professional Development and Technical Webinars

IEEE BLP helps professionals at varied levels to upskill, reskill and continuously develop their career development. Certification programs have helped to compete with global talents. Several companies have integrated BLP courses with their resources.

IEEE BLP has delivered 100+ webinars over the decade benefiting over 20,000 participants and visitors. The recorded webinars are made available for the repetitive learning and future references.

Key strengths of IEEE BLP
