IEEE SIGHTIEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT) is a global network of groups consisting of IEEE members and volunteers who identify and address local problems by applying their technical skills and partnering with their local communities. For more information please visit https://sight.ieee.org/
EPICS in IEEEEngineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) in IEEE aims to empower university students by engaging them in real-world, service-learning experiences. It aims to strengthen student skills in project management, teamwork, and communication and hence bridge the gap between technical education and community impact through collaboration with technical professionals and local communities. By participating, students gain invaluable exposure to interdisciplinary teamwork and real-life applications of engineering that directly benefit underserved populations. Learn more epics.ieee.org
IEEE MOVE Outreach, IndiaThe goal of IEEE MOVE Outreach India is to reach every disaster location in India through Disaster awareness, STEM kit education to build awareness on climate change and sustainability, Technology innovations to reduce the severity of damage after a disaster, and provide technology support through the MOVE vehicle for first responders to ensure communication, power, rescue, and information services. Educate: Next generation of innovators and engineers

IEEE Power and Energy Scholarship Plus ProgramThe initiative led by IEEE India Philanthropy and the Power & Energy Society (PES), is focused on inspiring and encouraging students to pursue careers in Electrical Engineering and Power Technology. The program aims to address the declining number of professionals entering the Power and Electrical sector, which is critical for national development, energy sustainability, and infrastructure growth. It aims at creating a strong pipeline of skilled professionals to support the future of India’s energy needs.  IEEE REACHIEEE REACH (Raising Engineering Awareness through the Conduit of History) is an initiative that equips pre-university educators with free, open educational resources (OERs) that explore the social, historical, and humanistic contexts of science, technology, and engineering. The program is designed to make technical subjects more accessible and engaging through interdisciplinary learning. The REACH  program aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the Standards for Technological and Engineering Literacy (STEL) by ITEEA. It encourages critical thinking and helps students see the real-world impact of engineering innovations throughout history. Learn more and access free teaching resources at reach.ieee.org

Engage - Broaden appreciation for technology’s value and importance

 IEEE History Center

The IEEE History Center is a non-profit organization committed to preserving, researching, and promoting the legacy of electrical engineering and computing.  IEEE Women in EngineeringIEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is a global network of IEEE members and volunteers dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists, and inspiring girls worldwide to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The initiative focuses on connecting, supporting, and empowering women in engineering through mentorship, networking, and leadership opportunities. WIE also works to improve recruitment and retention of women in STEM fields, fostering innovation, diversity, and excellence for the benefit of humanity. For more information, visit wie.ieee.org.

IEEE India-specific initiatives - Impacting Indian Communities

 Disaster Resilience Project

Taking a bold step toward building disaster-resilient communities, the Disaster Resilience Project, an initiative by IEEE India Philanthropy in collaboration with Internet Society Foundation (ISF) is transforming lives in over 205 disaster-prone villages across Karnataka and Kerala. By delivering reliable internet connectivity in partnership with BSNL, Railnet, and Kerala Vision, this project ensures that even the most remote communities stay connected during crises, access timely information, and harness opportunities for education and development.

Equipped with smart classrooms and solar-powered UPS systems, the initiative goes beyond emergency preparedness. It is about empowering rural India with the tools to thrive, adapt, and build a more secure, connected future.

To ensure sustainability, over 500 local technicians have been trained in internet deployment and maintenance, creating a skilled,  community-led resilience that keeps them connected, even in times of crisis.

In the phase-2 of the Disaster Resilience Project, funded by ISF, is going to impact 150 more disaster-prone villages across 5-6 states (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and Assam)  of India

WIE India ScholarshipThe IEEE WIE Scholarship Program, in collaboration with Quest Global, is transforming the future of women in engineering by providing scholarships. In the 2023–2024 academic year, the program empowered 402 women across 114 colleges, followed by support for 388 more students in 2024–2025—including 110 daughters of single parents and 350 from families earning less than ₹1 lakh annually. Beyond financial aid, the scholarship offers technical courses, expert mentorship, soft skills training, and industry exposure through partnerships with Cognizant, the Wadhwani Foundation, and others. With 402 students completing the IEEE Blended Learning Program, the initiative is creating a strong, industry-ready talent pool of future women engineers across India.
WIE India Returning Women Engineers Program (RWEP)The IEEE Returning Women Engineers Program (RWEP), led by IEEE India Philanthropy (IIP) in collaboration with Quest Global, is an initiative through which we are helping women reignite their engineering careers after career breaks. In 2024–25, the program impacted 151 women across Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, equipping them with mentorship, upskilling, and the confidence to thrive professionally. And now, RWEP is going nationwide in 2025–26, with registrations already in progress, offering even more women a powerful path back into the workforce.
IEEE MOVE OUTREACH INDIAIEEE MOVE Outreach India is an emergency response program that supports first responders during natural disasters with vital technology services like short-term communication, power supply, internet access, mobile charging, and lighting. Beyond emergency operations, the initiative also promotes disaster awareness and STEM education to promote awareness on climate change and sustainability.
