IEEE SA Webinar on “Ubiquitous Connectivity – Fundamental Pillar of the 6G Vision”

April 9 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

As the global community advances towards the next generation of connectivity technologies and standards, “Ubiquitous Connectivity” is recognized as a fundamental pillar aiming to provide seamless, reliable and inclusive communication services across terrestrial, airborne, maritime and satellite domains. Beyond enhanced performance, this vision emphasizes global coverage, sustainability, resilience, and digital inclusion, enabling connectivity in underserved and remote regions as well as during emergency and disaster scenarios. Ubiquitous connectivity poses key challenges at the system level, including harmonized spectrum usage, energy efficiency, network scalability, and interoperability across heterogeneous access technologies.
Within the IEEE ecosystem, the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) plays a central role in developing open, consensus-driven standards that enable scalable and cost-effective connectivity solutions. Several IEEE standards play a pivotal role in realizing this vision. The IEEE 802 family underpins local and metropolitan connectivity, including IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) for high-throughput wireless access, IEEE 802.15.4 for low-power IoT networks, and IEEE 802.16 for broadband wireless systems. IEEE P2061-2024 “Frugal5G” provides standard architecture for low mobility and energy efficient networks for affordable broadband. P2872 Standard WG is focusing on developing standards for interoperable and secure Public Wi-Fi architecture.
